Update: Orienteering during COVID-19
Counties Manukau Orienteering Club (CMOC) is privileged to be able to run orienteering events and training days during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. We take our responsibilities to our fellow volunteers, orienteers, spectators, landowners (who graciously permit us to hold events on their land), and health and safety requirements very seriously.
In order to be able to deliver events to our communities, we are required to follow public health regulations. How we run our events will be aligned with the COVID-19 Protection Framework (CPF), and whatever “traffic light” phase we are in. We are unable to enter into dialogue regarding these requirements. More information about the COVID-19 Protection Framework is here.
If we do not adhere to the rules, we will not be able to hold events and may also be subjected to significant fines. Furthermore, we support vaccination as the best way to protect ourselves, our whanau and friends, our wider community, and our country.
As of 3 December 2021, the CPF’s Red Phase permits outdoor events to be run under the following requirements:
- Record keeping and scanning are required.
- Up to 100 people may be present at one time, based on 1-metre physical distancing.
- Vaccine certificates/My Vaccine Pass will be required for entry, for everyone over the age of 12. Official proof of exemption will be accepted for those who have an exemption.
What this means for CMOC-run events:
- All participants in events and training days must scan the contact tracing QR code when arriving at the event or training venue. If you do not have a smartphone capable of scanning, you must sign the contact tracing sheet.
- Everyone over the age of 12 years attending our events and training days, whether participating or spectating, must be double-vaccinated and must scan their Vaccine Pass or show a vaccine certificate/card.
- If you hold an official exemption document, this will be accepted, and you will be required to show this to the event organiser.
- Physical distancing will be required, particularly at start areas and at registration/sign-in areas, and where possible, cones will be used to mark distances where competitors must wait before starting. Map boxes will be distanced for your safety.
- Face masks will be required to be worn when not exercising, and hand sanitiser to be used, at registration areas and SPORTident pickup areas.
- We will not be able to accept on-the-day entries to events, or cash payments. All entries must be confirmed online via entero and payment made via online banking.
- Additional protocols may apply for everyone’s safety that are specific to different event-types that we run. Please note carefully any correspondence / event details for the upcoming programme.
Finally, please remember that our officials and volunteers are also members of our communities who choose to give up their personal time to deliver these events. Please be positive, kind, and supportive to everyone – we are all operating in a difficult and continually changing environment.
Thank you,
CMOC Executive Committee
