The following CMOC members have been selected for the NZ secondary school teams to participate in the Southern Cross Challenge in Tasmania in late September. This challenge is between Australian State teams and two NZ teams, which takes place in conjunction with the Australian National Secondary School Championships.

Nearly 30 members of the club travelled to Christchurch at Queen’s Birthday weekend for three days of orienteering. The events doubled as the selection trials for the NZ team to participate in the Australian Secondary School Championships in Tasmania in late September. The team is expected to be announced in a few weeks.

Notably in the sprint event, the club had three members in the top five of the Junior Boys grade (Oscar Vink and Blake McKinnon were the other two).
Feedback from juniors who went to Christchurch suggests the terrain for the long and middle distance events was a challenge, being quite different to the sand dune terrain we have around Auckland.
CMOC would appreciate early registration for the event via the link below, but entries will be accepted on the day depending upon availability of maps.
