This Sunday, Counties Manukau Orienteering is holding our first forest event of the year at Waiuku Forest South. It has been set and controlled by two of our keen youth orienteers, Zack Meads and Riley Massey (both in Year 11 at Pukekohe High), under the mentorship of John Robinson.
Zack tells us more: “This is our first event for 2024, and on a unique map. At this time of the year, the cutty grass in the forest is at full bloom! Whilst we have worked to make the courses avoid as much of it as possible, we still recommend that you have full leg protection for the higher-end courses.”
Suitable for all ages and levels of skill: As one of our early events, the shorter courses are designed to help new orienteers adjust to forest running and navigation. There will also be coaching clinics and training available. You don’t even have to be a member!
The event centre is at the large clearing down the main forest road (signed from the steel mill entrance).
