2021 Queen’s Birthday Weekend Orienteering in Christchurch

Nearly 30 members of the club travelled to Christchurch at Queen’s Birthday weekend for three days of orienteering. The events doubled as the selection trials for the NZ team to participate in the Australian Secondary School Championships in Tasmania in late September. The team is expected to be announced in a few weeks.

Below are the top three placings of club members:

Notably in the sprint event, the club had three members in the top five of the Junior Boys grade (Oscar Vink and Blake McKinnon were the other two).

Feedback from juniors who went to Christchurch suggests the terrain for the long and middle distance events was a challenge, being quite different to the sand dune terrain we have around Auckland.
